The Main Packaging Machine Families

Filling and dosing machines put product into the container: liquid fillers by gravity, pressure or pump; paste fillers by piston; powder fillers by auger or vacuum; granule fillers by volume or weight. The filling principle always follows the product — viscosity for liquids, flow behavior for powders — which is why filling is its own discipline rather than one machine with attachments.

Closing machines seal what filling opened. Capping machines apply and torque closures — screw caps by spindle or chuck, snap caps by press, pumps and sprayers by gentle chuck handling. Sealing machines close the pack itself: heat sealers for film and laminates, induction sealers for foil liners inside caps, tray, cup and tube sealers for their formats. Bag, Pouch and Carton Machines

Flexible packaging splits into two philosophies. Vertical form fill seal — VFFS — machines make the bag inside the machine: film feeds from a roll, a forming collar folds it into a tube, product fills through the tube, and jaws seal and cut finished bags in one continuous cycle. Wrapping families beyond shrink — flow wrappers and overwrappers — wrap product in a continuous film web for retail finish and protection.

Palletizing completes the sequence, stacking cased product into warehouse units.
